Importance:
Importance of Education for the History of the Universe

When listing key words for research themes on particle physics, nuclear physics, and astrophysics, it is clearly understood that these fields overlap with each other. Research fields in physics develop over time, and so a present-day interdisciplinary field will develop into the main field in a decade or two. It is exceptional for a certain field to remain as a main problem in physics for decades. In light of this, it is necessary to comprehensively study not only the current main problems, but also the surrounding fields and interdisciplinary fields, in order to become a world-class researcher in 10 or 20 yearsf time. Our Program for the History of the Universe fosters researchers across fields so as to establish future leaders. For the graduate students selected from those majoring in physics, the program in physics at the Graduate School of Pure and Applied Sciences offers education and research related to the history of the universe, beginning with the Big Bang, in cooperation with laboratories working in experimental particle physics, experimental nuclear physics, and observational astrophysics based on the Program for the History of the Universe under a special budget for education and research aimed at fostering an educational revolution from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, launched in fiscal 2007.
