The Program for the History of the Universe offer as follows; integrating the fields of particle physics, nuclear physics, and astrophysics in cooperation with international hubs for advanced research. At the hubs, first-class researchers from around the world play important roles in the fields of particle physics, nuclear physics, and astrophysics using the latest research equipment. This program integrates international collaborative research programs in each field from the viewpoint of a unified education on the history of the universe and conducts education as one of the courses for majoring in physics at the Graduate School of Pure and Applied Sciences.
Graduate students enrolled in this program need to undergo practical training in areas different from their own at hubs for education and research in the fields of particle physics, nuclear physics, and astrophysics during the two-year masterfs program. For example, graduate students majoring in observational astrophysics need to undergo practical training in experimental particle physics in their first year of the masterfs program and in experimental nuclear physics in their second year. The practical training courses include Study at a Foreign Laboratory on History of the Universe I and II, and Study at outside laboratory on Observational Astrophysics. Each course, which lasts for two or three weeks, allows students to gain one credit. In addition, students can take Special Lectures on the History of the Universe I and II, which are seminars conducted at each hub. In the doctoral program, students aim to complete their doctoral thesis while learning from world-class researchers with graduate students around the world in English, hold discussions with each other, and conduct advanced research in a competitive environment for a year or a year and a half in total with Research on History of the Universe III, IV and V. The cost for traveling abroad and for living expenses is covered. The use of students of doctoral programs staying at overseas research hubs for a long time as assistant researchers is under consideration.
